Making and Using Cheap Buff Compounds for Wood, Plastics and Resin.
All you need to construct this sled is:
1) A bar clamp long enough to handle the wood you will be cutting;
2) Two pieces of 3/4" plywood about 3" wide and about the length of the clamp;
and
3) Two wood screws about 1-1/2" long
Here are some of the characteristics of ones I found:
1) The log sled relied on‐the miter aperture to create linear cuts. Since most saws have the miter aperture to the right of the blade, the log is, of course, cut to the right of the blade. This puts the weight of the log out near the end of the table on an already peak weighty band saw.
2) Most sleds need a lot of material to construct. You must originally build a sled large enough for all logs that you cut, or construct a new one, when you deal with bigger logs. The logs were less than six inches in diameter and no more than fourteen to sixteen inches long. After adding a riser block, which allows me to cut logs up to twelve inches in diameter, I needed a sled with the capacity to handle the larger logs.
3) Log sleds grab up a lot of space to store.

For the foregoing reasons, I set out to come up with a jig or sled that both permit me to cut on the left side of the fence. Use scraps and a minimal quantity of materials, end up with an simple to store sled. This is what I came up with, and it works. I used a bar clamp sold by Harbor Freight.
The clamp is only wanted to stabilize the log, so it does not roll. If the log is permitted to roll, it will demolish your blade and could be hazardous. When using this jig, if you construct your initial cut using the fence and cut to the left of the blade, on the side where the clamp fix the log. The blade will shove the fence down, against the table. So the log can't roll, if the clamp is fixed adequately.
NOTE: If it will clear the front of the clamp, it will, also, clear the back of the clamp.
