A supplementary table aids and is a must for cutting logs. Re-sawing also requires a barrier. Some band saw manufacturers have barriers available for their saws ($75 to $100), or you can make one. The barrier should be high enough to support the material you’re cutting and adjustable to compensate for blade drift.
Blade selection and more Just about any band saw will do acceptable re-sawing. For example, all the cuts made in this story were done on an inexpensive, 14-in. band saw with a 3/4-hp motor.
All we did to the saw was add a riser block to increase its capability. Decided, pushing a saw too firm can swamp it down, or even current a circuit breaker. Consequently take it relaxed. If you plan to do lots of re-sawing, see below for more on greater and souped-up machines.
